Why we built this site

Most travel sites covering Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) treat it as a stopover. We don't. This is a destination that holds two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a Maratha-era fortress, a Jyotirlinga temple, a Mughal mausoleum and a living craft tradition all within 100 km of one another. It deserves a guide that takes the place seriously.

Sambhajinagar.in is built and maintained by local heritage writers and travellers who actually live in or routinely visit the city. We update key practical pages quarterly — fees, timings, weather notes — so that you don't show up at a closed gate.

About the name

In 2023 the historic city of Aurangabad was officially renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The airport (IXU) and the railway station have since followed. We use both names side by side throughout the site — first because both are still widely used, and second because we want this guide to be found whichever way you search.
